segare.artとは
About segare.art
Born as the son of a 1/1 scale (real-life) professional painter, I naturally spent my childhood immersed in building plastic scale models. Years passed into adulthood, and as the "son of a painter," I returned to model-making. What would become my current body of work began with creating small, intimate worlds that could fit in the palm of one's hand.
Building upon the techniques and discipline honed through scale modeling, I transitioned into clay sculpting under the moniker segare.art.
The Artwork
At first glance, my roots lie in the mundane, seemingly unartistic routines of everyday life and grueling, practical labor. Yet, it is precisely within this inescapable reality that my craftsman’s eye and hand were forged—observing the finest details with relentless precision, refining them meticulously, and pursuing absolute perfection.
We live in a contemporary world where everyone vaguely senses that "something is wrong," yet we all escape into the same collective dream, slumbering in the lukewarm comfort of the crowd. I, too, am merely a human being raised within this engineered system—loving its desires and entertainments, equipped with nothing more than the tools provided by this world.
Superficially, my sculptures adopt a friendly 3-head-tall proportion, wearing the accessible codes of pop culture. Yet within these vessels lies a dense concentration of physical reality: the tilt of a body yielding to gravity, and the subtle distortions born from an unnatural societal structure.
What I hold in my hands is nothing more than the mud (noise) rationed to us by this world. But using only this mud, I perform a triangulation—mapping the invisible coordinates of a beauty that exists in theory—and flesh it out with physical clay. From these vessels shaped of mud, I strip away the vague, shifting moon of the "self," polishing the surface into a pure mirror.
The resulting three-dimensional form remains, ultimately, nothing but mud. Yet it is no longer ordinary mud. Upon direct gaze, it reflects the blinding light of the Sun (Idea), serving as a light-bearing crystal designed to unarchive the "forgotten codes of beauty" engraved deep within us.
Immersed in the mud of this engineered world and knowing nothing else, I possess no direct memory of a flawless realm (the ancient Idea). What guides me instead are three elements: forgotten fragments of memory, a sharp eye for detail forged through physical labor, geometric precision, and an intuition that grasps truth in the threshold between dream and reality. Guided by these three, I calculate the theoretical coordinates where true beauty must reside. Using only heavy clay and the tools I have loved in this life, I build tangible sculptures—bringing forth a "certain beauty" that cannot exist in a world merely drifting along.
I lean in close, whispering, "You and I are comrades soaked in the same mud," pretending to share the sweet, familiar dreams served by modernity. Yet, beneath the refreshing sweetness that everyone drinks without suspicion, I covertly embed a "distortion for awakening."
The first sip will feel predictably comforting, filling the chest with ease. But when the time comes, a cold dissonance will quietly begin to emerge. The heartbeat quickens, an unsettling wave rises from the depths of the stomach, and one is left trembling at the realization that they have been infected.
The sculptures I create are nothing less than a "slow-acting poison" disguised in accessible symbols. Taking advantage of the pleasure offered by given dreams, I feign sweet empathy while dropping poison into your subconscious. Into the flesh of those who slumber within the same illusion, I quietly etch the inescapable pain of existence and the spark of awakening.
Imitating a sterile, flawless utopia is meaningless. My work requires a deep gaze at the boundaries near collapse—the subtle warping of bodies worn down and swaying under gravity and daily existence. By thoroughly stripping away the vague subjectivity of the ego (the Moon), the mud-formed surface transforms into a "pure mirror." It catches the blinding light of the essence (the Sun)—a light too bright to face directly—and quietly visualizes the lost algorithm (code) of beauty right here, within the inescapable reality of the mud.
